Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.... Seems that is what it is doing. All day long, and all night tonight. I woke up super early - in preparation to do a training ride before the snow started to fly. Spent the morning on the phone with a few friends - all of whom suggested that I not go out there. And I was talked into not going. And I'm glad I didn't go. It was very windy, wet rainy snow - it woulda been a sloppy ride. And I don't need to risk getting sick (especially after JUST recovering from a wicked cold of 2 weeks). So I flopped onto the sofa and watched a few movies, and a little of the Winter Olympics - fell asleep and napped most of the afternoon. Very relaxing. Hell, if I had a fireplace - it would have been the perfect weekend for that. Awoke and did a few things around the place before cooking a huge dinner - Linguini with a Genoa Salame and Chardonnay infused Shitake & tomato sauce, a light salad. Topped it off with a glass of Chardonnay. Then made myself some espresso and ready for the evening. I finally ventured out to clear the snow off my car and prep it for the more inches of snow - turned windshield wipers up, covered the windshield, et al. Then I snapped a few pics (pictured). It's a veritable winter wonderland out there. I almost made a snow angel. In for the night (wish I had a fireplace), to catch up on some bills, watch Flight Plan with Jodie Foster (she's such a cutiepie, bites my knuckles) - and just RELAX. Tomorrow will be a relaxing day before I meet up with my parents for dinner. Life is SNOWY good.
Comments:
Jodie rocks! I'm glad someone posted pics of the snow piles.

I'm thankful for simple things. Like when I can cruise thru a yellow light before it becomes red, or finding a stainless steel collander at Big Lots for 4 bucks. But today, I'm more thankful that it has become a Friday. This shitty productive week has been shoved aside - swept into the calendar as a writeoff of sorts. Time to just relax for a moment, when the spirit moves itself until about 11pm Sunday when I can start to completely stress about the new work week. photo by d. scott gregory Tired on deck, awaiting snow click on photo to enlarge |
I don't "live for the weekends" like that crappy 80s tune suggested - I relish the time...MY time off from work over the course of two days. It's not Church, it's not the bar....it's just MY time. We all have it, selfish of sorts - when not obligated to do familial or chore type tasks. This weekend will be of that nature. I have a clean house. I have no obligations to get anything done - the domestic barometer is clear of any responsibility (except Sunday eve - dinner with parents). We are supposed to get between 5-10 inches of snow on Saturday (tomorrow) - oh the drama. It doesn't feel like snow, it may happen. I'm prepared for it. But I'll miss a day of cycling...sucks to be me, but...I can do other thangs. I refused to be stressed over such trivialities. May be the perfect day to be snowed in to catch up on some well deserved sleep, do my taxes..and crack open the software to create/revise my will. Hell...I should get a sled and go out and enjoy the splendor of the nothingness that snow renders this area useless. Maybe create a snow angel for the hell of it. My workday was very busy...to the point that the day slid by faster than a Olympic Bob Sled Team on steroids. I finished up work and went out on a really chilly training ride out towards Peonean Springs - only a mere 34 miles to and fro. I was saddled up with this dude who commutes daily from his home in Lovettsville to Ashburn (he says it takes him 90 minutes to bike it - he's very healthy, early 40s....and was a talker). Before I said farewell to him, he said "I've been doing this commute for 3 years...daily...my wife thinks I'm crazy...with a capital C. But, she thinks it shows determination..and character, even though she thinks that I'm a crazy motherfucker, but she loves me for it - because she knows it makes me happy which makes her happy..." I thought about that last comment on the way home. Made me smile. Life is good - let it snow, let it snow, I have a dream, let it snow.....

Brrrrrr! It's cold cold cold. And gonna get colder - and soon to have snow this weekend (bleah). Headed into the office and was cold seemingly all day, seems that someone turned on the AC on the day before - so the office was an icebox. The day went by very fast with the new project I'm managing. Finished up and suited up for a VERY cold training ride out towards Hamilton. The wind was horrible - but fortunately it was a headwind going out, and a tailwind pushing me back - full 34 miles. Ran a few errands and came home to a cold apartment, turned on my heater and settling in for a relaxing night of a little tv and writing. 1074 miles for the month of January - so far 1220 miles so far this year (pic above). Snapped a few photos on the ride tonight - my sweaty frosty fugly mug and a twilight shot looking west over Ashburn near the top of the Rt 28 overpass. photo by d. scott gregory Frozen sweaty face click on photo to enlarge |

What a strange and wonderful day all wrapped into one soft cold flour tortilla. The morning commute was pure hell, an accident or something caused a major delay. Made for a stressful morning, being 10 minutes late. I had a VERY busy and productive day at work. It seems that my company won a schweet contract, which makes the coffers of our company in a great spirit of sorts. I wrote the proposal many months ago, and now after lengthy deliberations and finger crossing, we got the contract. Pat on the company and my back. Now I'm going to be the Project Manager for following through. I'm excited, and a little nervous. Made for a great day, and a busy one to strategize. Enough about work, I was prepared to go on a very windy, frigid training ride out to Hamilton. The temperatures dropped - it was about 30 degrees when I left the office, with an index of 25 degrees. I suited up, and packed my camera. Seems that I have not taken any photos in a couple of days. So off I go, into a semi-overcast sunsetty training ride past yonder and back. Decided to take a few pictures of a few things on the Washington & Old Dominion Trail. Seems that Loudoun County is the fastest growing county in the entire USA, and part of that progress has impacted and encroached the W&OD trail, well, sorta. The trail itself runs 45 miles through 3 counties, and several cities. photo by d. scott gregory Detour until bridge complete click on photo to enlarge |
The last 30 miles of the trail are in Loudoun County. In the past 2 years, I've seen the overdevelopment that surrounds the trail - everything from tree capping to a few busy intersections that are now becoming bridges. Pictured is the new W&OD trail overpass over the last connection of the Claiborn Parkway that runs through Ashburn. There are tons of new huge ass McMansions that have now spawned over the once rural landscape, replacing the once cow fields to 2 million dollar McMansions that exist almost less than 30 feet from each other. Those things are monsters. and because of all the expansion and over-development, the need for new roads to accommodate all the traffic. The whole prospect is exciting, scary, dangerous, and depressing. I miss cycling out to Purcellville, being in the cannopied treelined trail - now there's houses beyond houses - and the deer have no place to go, except to graze on the 100 foot wide X 45 mile park known as the W&OD Trail. I finished up my very frigid ride and snapped a quick photo in the parking lot - I look like a strange ghost of sorts. Put my crap away and drove home to settle in for a relaxing evening of tv and domesticity, while basking in the spot heated studio. Tomorrow will be another busy and hopefully exciting day. photo by d. scott gregory W&OD Bridge over Parkway click on photo to enlarge |

Another work day. Another freezing sunsetty training ride out to Hamilton (34 miles total). Frozen hot dog legs and frozen fishtick fingers. Domesticity. Life continues.

Monday Monday..... Welp, another day at work, and another evening of cycling - it is getting COLD again. Biked out to Purcellville and back, nice sunsetty ride, albeit windy, a mere 44 miles. Came home and sequestered myself into my studio after finishing my domesticity for a little tv and warmth of my spot heater.

Today sucked on many levels. But there was a salvation, in that a good friend helped me out. I'm more than thankful. More about this later. Ready for a new work week - I'm ready.
