Booty Full day. Mostly domestic crap and errands - emmissions test for the car, bike test drives, more crap. Biked the W O&D/Custis trail loop - bout 42 miles. It was perfect weather. No real highlights besides accidently running over an indecisive squirrel who couldn't decide which way to scramble off the bike trail. RIP squirly squirrel. Gonna go on a real long bike ride tomorrow - still deciding where. Prolly do part of the W O&D to Custis then down to Alexandria then to Mt Vernon (trail) and back to Vienna. If weather permits. (Does a reverse Rain Dance)
Such a better day today. Work was pleasant, A-hole boss was gone for the day, finished a big project and started on a new one. Left to meet up with my biking partner. Traffic was smooothe for a change. Was perfect, albeit a little gusty. Did our standard 32 mile dash to and from Vienna to Ashburn and back. We helped a bicyclist en route who had a flat (ironically, a 15 year veteran triathelete who had never had a flat tire on the road, her pump was broken) - which is how I met my training partner a month and a half ago. Afterwards, we had dinner at the Vienna Inn dive. Damn, they had great German potato salad. And Sierra Nevada on tap. Nothing more relaxing after a long bike ride than to change clothes/wash up at the Vienna Community Center then go a few blocks, sit down at a booth at the Vienna Inn - have an icy cold Sierra Nevada on tap and eat a smoked bratwurst with good company.

This week, this blog is starting to look like a bicycle review magazine. Found me another schweet deal, the
2004 Scattante R650 Double Road Bike (click on bike for larger pic). It's an interesting, huge bang for the buck - nice components. I have not found enough information about it. More research will ensue - and the search is not over.
Crappy day at work with the exception that we had a wild wild horrid thunderstorm with 60+ MPH winds, hail and a ton of rain and lightning. It finally settled down so I went on my bike ride. Biked to and past Vienna towards the Custis trail. A smoothe 35 miles. I was sweatier than hell when I got back - to the point, my shirt was dripping sweat the entire ride back. I think I drank 2 liters of water and sweated a gallon or two. Tomorrow is my training day with my partner, then we'll cool off afterwards with a beer and a Chili Dawg.

Rut roh, found another bike in my continued search for a new road bike. Found it upon accident, the
2004 Ibex Vantage 5500 (click on bike pic for close up). It's on sale too. Only $900, it's MSRP is close to $1300. Weighs in at 19lbs 14oz. Schweet.
Went on a small 34 mile bike ride tonight to Purceville - it was humid as hell. Got a little rained on too - felt nice.

Drooling over a new bike, the
2004 Orbea Volata. It runs a sweet $1199 with triple Campagnolo thruout, carbon front and rear forks + seat stem. It's light, right at 20lbs. Test drove this today - I'm getting closer to determining which bike I wanna get.
So far it's a toss up between the
2004 Orbea Volata and the
2004 KHS Flite 700. I've also looked at LeMond, Cannondale, Specialized, Trek, Giant and some other bikes. I do prefer the Campy (Campagnolo) products - and I know I want a few items to be carbon - especially the fork, seat stem, rear fork, et al. I like the slimline profiles.
Anyhoo. Did the Mt Vernon Trail today. OMG it was hot as a mo fo. like 94 i think..and humid humid humid. I drank almost 3 litres of water on that 3 hour up and back. put in about 40 some odd miles. It's now getting hotter. It was nice ride tho - a gentle breeze off the Potomac River and a few harsh clouds threatening to storm - just a sprinkle. But, it was hot as hell....I love you AC.

What a lousy rainy 4th of July. Rained all day - I skipped my bike ride. Relaxed and watched a few movies, then grilled some steak - watched fireworks on tv. Thought of going downtown Washington DC to see them live...but what a mess. Traffic and huge crowds - quarter of a million people up there around the monuments watching fireworks.
