strangely fantastic day. Regardless, will be out of town for the B2B - tired and need to finish my packing. Long ass drive down and back. But will be a "fun" race. Life is Good.

Another rainy morning - causing a brutal commute to yet another crappy day of work, albeit productive. Worked heavilly all day and til very late, had to skip going to the gym and run a few errands to prepare for the B2B this weekend. Packing ensued and correspondence and more preparation for the weekend. Came across a great Google map tool through the B2B website that maps out endurance rides/races/walks: Bridge to Bridge 2006 Century map. You can map the mileage on a given route, and find estimated elevation and even calculate the calories you burn based on your weight. Super-uber-dooper cool. Check it out for yourself: map a ride!. I will be gone for the weekend to do the B2B, should be torcherous, enigmatically silly, pure hell, and fun all wrapped into one quad searing escapade. Life is overwealmingly bike-er-if-ic, in a good way.

Exhausting day, what's new? Laughs. Work just work. Good workout/spinner class afterwards - fantastico sweatfest. Evening chock full of domesticity and preparation for the B2B this weekend. One strange thing that I noticed today...I was purchasing a few things at the triathalete shop near my office in preparation for my race this weekend. I happenned to notice the receipt: $13.13 ...that caught my attention...but even more because it's the 13th of September... Strange. Life Seems Shorter as the Days Go By.

Work was a busy one, just drama per usual. Nothing to "report", thank goodness. Came back to the office from an offsite meeting to a sunshiny afternoon - a little cool. I decided to take a short spin to make sure my gears were indexed right. Headed to the gym for a sweaty spinner-fest of sorts. I'm trying to take it easy this week before this weekend... This next weekend is the Bridge to Bridge Century ride. It's by far one of the most grueling century rides on the East Coast. I am in full preparation and about ready to embark on the long drive down to Lenoir, NC on Saturday for the Sunday Race. Here's a few Bridge to Bridge 2005 photos from last year. Time to finish all my packing - much to do. This will prove to be another notch in my stupidity, overcome another challenge. I love it. Smiles. Life is Good.

9/11 - 5th year "anniversary" for one of the darkest days in American History. I feel continued sadness for the continuation of the madness of it all. The only thing I can say is that the date also coincides with my Father's birthday. I called him tonight to wish him a fantastic Birthday. We did not discuss anything about 9/11. Too many tears would happen - this was originally supposed to be his day, not overshadowed by such an event, even though the event/history always since speaks volumes that had too closely touched our family. Work was just work - busy as hell. Super drama for the sake of drama, yet productive. Finished up on time and headed to the gym for a good 2 hour spinner ride (including 1 hour class). Came home to an evening of domesticity. Will take it easy this week while I prepare for B2B this next weekend. I saw a funny website a while ago that compiled a list of things relevant to hard core cyclists (I exerpted out a few items that I'm guilty of, the link posted goes to the original list - pops in a new window), but a good laugh: You may be a bike weenie if ...- You see nothing wrong with discussing the connection between hydration and urine color.
- You have more money invested in your bike clothes than in the rest of your combined wardrobe.
- "Four cheeseburgers and four large French Fries" is for YOU.
- You see a fit, tanned, Lycra-clad young woman ride by, and the first thing you check out is her bicycle.
- Your bike has more miles on its computer then your car's odometer.
- Your bikes are worth more than your car.
- When you move to a new area the first thing you look for is a bike shop.
- You have more bike jerseys than dress shirts.
- You clean your bike(s) more often then your car.
- You can't seem to get to work by 8:30 AM, even for important meetings, but you don't have any problems at all meeting your buddies at 5:30 AM for a hammerfest.
- Your New Year's resolution is to put more miles on your bike than your car, and you do it.
- You know the gear sizes of several different rear clusters by heart.
- When a co-worker states that they spent $15,000 on a Harley, you comment "That's nuts! You could buy two or three nice bicycles for that!"
- You spot fellow cyclists by the patch of suntan on the back of their hands.
- Your arms are tan from the bicep down, but your torso is white as paper.
- Your legs are tan from just above the knee, but your upper thigh is white as snow.
- You 'cross train' ONLY if it helps your biking.
- You time visits to non-cyling friends in other cities to coincide with local club rides.
- You see nothing unusual about having 250 cycling web sites bookmarked.
- You communicate by email with perfect strangers thousands of miles away about the precise weight and design of your new seatpost.
- You have more money invested in cycling shoes than work shoes.
- You're riding on a cold, drizzly day and pass a golf course. You see several groups on the course, and you think "What kind of idiot would be playing golf on a day like this?" without realizing the golfers are thinking the same thing about you.
- You have more water bottles than you have drinking glasses.
- The nicest pair of shoes you own have cleats in the soles.
- You get withdrawal symptoms if off the bike for more than a day.
- When anybody mentions distance you immediately think of how long it would take to cycle it.
- Your bike is worth more than your car and the 2 tires on your bike cost you more than the 4 tires on your car.
- You have a powerful bike light so darkness is no longer a barrier to continuing to ride.
- You maintain a detailed bike log of each day you rode, distance, average speed, route, cumulative miles to date, etc., etc. but you haven't reconciled your check book in months.
- You lean your bike against your car and you are worried about scratching the paint on the bike.
- You think it's perfectly normal to have your helmet light battery charging on your desk at work, next to your computer.

Long day. But beautiful weather. Headed out early to drive to Indian Head to do the Southern Maryland Century (Indian Head 100). It was relatively flat - unfortunately not well marked. Got lost at one point, added on an extra 6 miles. Finished in 6 hours and 10 minutes, 108.5 miles. I'm exhausted. Drove home and took a long nap. Woke up mid-evening to an agenda of domesticity and preparedness for the work week/next weekend. And tomorrow is the 5th anniversary of 9/11. I just want to curl up in bed and just hope the day just dissapears. But I'll be at work, gotta stay productive. Life moves on.
