What a beautiful day - and fun. Spent the morning putzing around - domestic stuff, errands then test drove 4 bikes. 2 miles each...sheesh...almost a workout. In the afternoon, met with my training buddy in Washington DC near Georgetown for a bike ride down the C & O trail. I got sooo lost trying to meet up. It was a beautiful trail, gravelly, smooth - but a nice ride along the canal. We biked about 3 hours then went to her place for a beer. All in all, great day.
Thank GOODNESS it's now the weekend...a THREE DAY weekend (4th of July). I'm looking forward to just an impeccable orgy of relaxation and domestic bliss - combined with a little entertainment and excersize. Cracks open a beer, stretches my muscles after a 34 mile bike ride tonight. Ahhh...it's summer summer.....summer. I'm getting together with my trainer tomorrow for an afternoon bike ride somewhere near Alexandria - and then possibly to a dip in the pool at her condo complex. It's supposed to be hot as hell tomorrow - and a cool swim after a 45 mile ride would be refreshing. Anyhoo...y'all have a fun and safe 4th of July weekend!
I can tell it's summer....things at work have slowed down...with people on vacation...people at conferences. Rather a dull day...shh...i spent the down time looking at more bikes online. I've narrowed it down to the KHS, LeMond, Specialized, Trek and Giant... My goal is to get it after July 30th.
Went on a bike ride tonight with my training partner - we meet Tuesdays and Thursdays. Today we did the Vienna to Ashburn section...an even 32 miles. Was a beautiful albeit muggy afternoon/evening to ride. We are both getting faster in our training. Afterwards, we went to this really funky casual restaurant/family owned/dive bar in Vienna... the
Vienna Inn for a bite and a beer. Totally casual place. Cheap food. My training partner is an amazing woman, well travelled, educated, she teaches 2nd grade - loves her job and career, she's getting her masters to further her career, and is in great shape (afterall, she's a dualathelete). Had a lot of fun tonight.
Tomorrow is Friday before the 3 day 4th of July weekend (I so far have zero plans except help parents deal with yard stuff, play tennis with dad, bike with my training buddy and shop for bikes on Saturday. Will grill a few nights - and cook. Which reminds me...I have not posted a recipe lately.
Dry day at work. Fantastic bike ride (34 miles). Sister in law with my 2 nephews and new neice is here for the evening. Lotta stuff to do. Will not be around tomorrow evening - bike training session and some dinner with friends.
Saw three deer tonight on the bike trail. They were like less than 10 feet from me. I slowed down..and then stopped...they continued to munch on wild grass and stare at me. They weren't sure if I was a tree or a fanatic hard core bicyclist. I had on this bright yellow bike jersey. I knew they could see me. Strange. Deer are usually very skiddish and will run from humans. Maybe they are just used to docile humans biking along the trail...and just observe them...never bother them that they have become the opposite of what they have evolved to fear. Similar to Darwin noticing this evolutionary trend in the Glapagos islands when he first visited....there were no humans for the finches to fear. But after much human interaction...the birds evolved quickly...knowing to fear humans...because Darwin and his crews would kill so many to bring back as specimins (Origin of Species).
Classic
Amazingly beautiful day here...a pure cornucopia orgasmic product of fantasmagoric meteorology. Al Roker must want his apetite back. Work was boring, but my bike ride (tiny 32 miles) was fantastic. OMG my chest is all blushy. Anyhoo. Boring domestic crap after I came home. Another day tomorrow. Will see my sister-in-law and the kids tomorrow night.
Thank goodness my X girlfriend *finally* realized that our relationship is over. Afterall...we have not physically seen each other literally in 2 years (as of this month). I used to love her to death. She is an amazing person - in generosity and spirit. Great sense of humor and honesty. Best virtues. We had been off and on for a few years. Things always change. Especially long distance. No harm no foul. I'm not dissapointed nor disconcerted. not remotely upset. Actually - kinda releived. I want her to be happy. That's all I want. I think I broke it off with her about a year ago...unsure..it's all convoluted since then. I won't go into details, but a followup will happen. Not as a response. Just as a closure manefesto. Ay!, where's my eye patch for the third eye blind?
Blah blah blah....another day at the office....another long and enjoying bike ride...another blog post...
Yea. was a nice relaxing day at work for a change - lotta people missing - vacations and a conference. Biked to and past Vienna tonight and back (a light 33 mile ride). Was beautiful. Supposed to storm tomorrow - will see if it's "do-able" to ride.
Slept in this morning - for a change. Well - after all it was sunday morning "GOD's day of rest". and yes...I did need to sleep. Har har har. Whatevva. Athiests need sleep too.
Anyhoo. Took my father to play tennis this early afternoon - he has not played in 27 years. But - like a bicycle...you never forget. He used to be an amazing tennis player from what I understand. So, in an attempt to continually find things for my father to do during retirement...my mother and I collaborated on a Father's Day gift...tennis a tennis raquet, et al. SO we played for less than an hour - he's really good....for not playing in so long. I hope he enjoyed it. We'll play next weekend.
Afterwards, I drove to Vienna and biked the Vienna-Alexandria W O&D and Custis loop trails - about 36 miles. Another superb day - weatherwise.
