Morning Rainbow Montage

April Fools Day of sorts. Woke up very tired this morning after staying up way too late last night - to see a rainbow from my deck. I snapped a few pics, but alas, my digital camera doesn't have a wide angle lens. Suffice to say, I had to assemble a montage to show the full spectrum. It was quite beautiful.

I got all my gear together to go mountain biking on the Heritage Trail along the Potomac River (1/4 mile from here) - did a nice leisurely 3 hour ride, just enjoying the splendor of it all. And it was a nice diversion - while I had my road bike in my own "shop" getting it re-worked.

Came home, took a nice bath and a nap. Woke in the early evening and went to run errands and pick up a DVD - Crash. Came home and watched it - FANTASTIC film.

Finished up the film, and spent an hour finishing my road bike - indexing gears, lubing, et al. Loaded the fucker in my car with my tooklit for the work week. I'll do another mountain bike trek tomorrow.

Daylight Savings Time tonight - lose an hour. So time for me to get cracking on making a Fritatta - aparagus, canadian bacon, smoked salmon, shitake mushroom, garlic, 4 cheeses. It's basically a snobby foodie omlette - but baked in a special dish. More on this tomorrow.

Life is FANTASTIC (looking forward to more wonderful weather tomorrow).

Last day of March. Now soon to be April 1st. What a joke. Ha! Soon to be Daylight Savings Time - oh joy! No biggie.

Today was a strange day of sorts with work - pure hell, but it ended ok. I spent my day between meetings at headquarters and offsite in Crystal City - a very busy day. But the weather was beyond excellent - almost 80 degrees! I was hankering to go on a really LONG training ride after the drama of work unfolded - and to break into the Springlike weekend.

That I did. I suited up into my summer gear and biked out to Purcellville and then some....the weather was just too awesome (total 46 miles). I had to finish before it got too dark. On my way back, I pacelined with a few chicks I know from the U of MD cycling team (who also bike with my cycling club). It was a fast & furious paceline back. We had a lot of fun. Nothing like giggles, spandex, and carbon fiber. It was crazy delish.

I came home after a few errands, and watched Prime - a film about a mixed aged couple who get entangled, the mother of the very young man happens to be the therapist (played by Merril Streep) of the female subject, 37 years old, recently divorced (played by Uma Thurmon). It was a humorous film. Strangely I could relate to parts of it, unsure why. Also picked up this odd art-type undocumentary of the last days of Kurt Cobaine's life, Last Days. It was a curious find - but almost too frustrating to watch. So I turned that trash off and decided to clean my bike (pictured).

In the process of cleaning my bike, I had to run to my car a few times to get my toolbox and my iPod - I snapped a few odd pics...one in the hallway, a very unflattering pic of me...and a strange shot of the new Lansdowne Blvd overpass over Rt 7. I wish I had a wide angle lens on my digital camera to capture the odd spendor of it all. Oh well.

Tomorrow, I'm gonna break out my mountain bike and do the Heritage Trail along the Potomac just a few blocks away - just a fun, yet different diversion. Then cook a Frittata. More to come...

Life is Springlike.

Strange, yet unpredictable day of sorts. It was a freekishly LOVELY day weatherwise - clear skys, and it warmed up to about in the low 70s in the mid-afternoon. I was aching all day to get out there and do a solid training ride (even though I was still sore for the training ride yesterday). I was a trooper though. Mostly with work - which is like the movie "Something Wicked This Way Comes" - something is brewing on the horizon - unsure what, but the morale in the office hit an all time facile insecurity level.

I PROMPTLY left at 4:30pm to go onto a training ride to mask the possibilities of what's happening at work. I think the shit will hit the fan tomorrow, unsure. I dislike closed door meetings from the proprietors of the company I work for - it usually end us with a horrible management debacle. Fuck it. It was too beautiful out to give a shit about it....

So I suited up in only shorts and a jersey and high tailed it up out to Purcellville - totalling 44 miles. I had many of my cycling buddies on the ride from my club - they sprang out of the woodwork on such a warm day. Next week is the start of our club's bi-weekly training rides - Looking forward to it.

Finished up and came home to face a few domestic tasks, then slummed for an hour or two in front of the tv - such a slacker. Snapped a few trivial pics (above) representing mush ado about nothing.

Life is Banal.

Nothing but a beautiful day. The weather was fantastic...in the mid 60s, sunshiney and crisp. Work was a continual nightmare, and a relief to leave promptly at 4:30pm so I could go on a long ass training ride.

This was the first time this season to wear shorts on a full ride (with no leg warmers) - biked out to Purcellville and back (44 miles) - it was PERFECT. Everything about it. Spring is here - and I cannot wait until the events start, and my cycling club training rides start next week. I'm psyched.

Tomorrow will be in the mid-70s - I will bask in the Spring weather yet again. Domesticity continues, but such is life.

Life is Spring.

Another very busy day at work, all told - it was a good work day. Slid by faster than a White Castle hamburger (not that I eat them, it's a mere expression).

It was threatening to rain all day, and by the late afternoon - it finally started to rain as I left the office. So I headed to the gym for a good 1.5 hour training ride on the spinner cycle (working on my mountain skills in total sprint mode). Worked up an amazing sweat - left feeling exhilirated, and ran a few errands which included a trip to Lowes to exchange a few things and pick up some gardening stuff for my deck garden.

Came home, spent the evening making homemade chicken salad and working on preparing my deck garden. Needed to level out my window boxes, which included putting struts beneath each box. Strange that it took hours. But it was relaxing - working in my naked deck garden while it was warm and raining.

Life is Gardening and Good.

For a Monday, it wasn't such a bad day. Work was really busy - and the hours flew by. I was anxious to go on a training ride afterwards - the temperatures rose and the day looked wonderful. I biked out past Hamilton and back, 42 miles - it was an amazing ride. Farkin beautiful.

Finished up and had to do a few things, run errands. I had a really potentially bad thing happen. I had found a stone pit near my office that I had planned to gather a small bag of rocks to put down into the bottom of one of the plants I was going to repot. To preface this: when I wear my sunglasses, I usually hang my regular glasses in the collar of my shirt - I didn't think much of it (until later while running errands) that they had somehow fallen out in the process of getting that bag of rocks. Well, I was really pissed, #1 these glasses have titanium frames and cost me almost 400 bucks #2, the idea of having to go thru the process of replacing them, #3 the 1/2 hour I spent looking for them in the dark, without my glasses on. Was like looking thru a needle in a haystack. I took a last look, and low and behold - there they were. Phew!

Finished up errands, came home to chores and repotted a few plants and watered my herb seedlings (pictured) that I planted/seeded last night. Tomorrow is another day.

Great relaxing day of sorts. Slept in and went out on a 52 mile roundtrip training ride out towards Harpers Ferry - it was chilly, yet clear. Came home and took a nap - was tired from staying up too late last night for all the domestic things that I had been postponing. Suffice to say, was able to do about 4 loads of laundry, including all the cycling outfits (pictured). That's only a fraction of my cycling outfits.

I took the time to log my training miles (pictured), a mere 2,996 miles so far this year. Evening in watching a little tv while I repot some plants and prepare for planting an herb garden for the deck this Spring. Now time to prepare coffee for the morning and shave - it's gonna be a wild start of the work week. Not looking forward to it, but such is life.
