After a sad day of sorts yesterday, I decided to abuse my body to the fullest extent today with a really sweaty training ride out towards Harpers Ferry. The weather was a little foggy on the start, but it cleared up - mucho humidity.
Finished up after 62 miles. Showered and took a LONG nap - woke up at around 9pm and headed out to the grocery store to get a few provisions for a new culinary exploit for the evening (pictured below).
I decided to do something a little unorthodox - a fusion of spanish, southern american and asian all mashed up. So without pretense, I present:
Grilled Chorizo on Bed of Smoked Bacon Collard Greens and Fried Lotus RootFor Chorizo:2-6 links fresh Chorizo sausage, fork poked to grill.
Grill for 10 minutes on medium-high heat
For Collard Greens:4 strips smoked pepper bacon, loosely chopped
1/2 red onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, sliced
medium bunch of collard greens, loosely chopped
1/2 cup chopped cilantro
Ground pepper to taste
In a medium sautee pan over high heat, brown bacon for 1 minute, then add onion and garlic, sautee until golden brown, add collard greens, cilantro & ground pepper. Cook for 10 minutes, allowing collard greens to reduce and absorb the juices of the bacon, garlic and onion.
For Fried Lotus Root:1 Lotus Root, sliced in 1/8th inch slices
In fryer with safflower oil at 400 degrees, drop slices of lotus root in. For about 5 minutes, allow lotus root to become golden brown. Remove and allow to drain on paper towels.
To plate:Serve grilled chorizo over bed of collard greens and fried lotus root.

exhausting day. not much more to report.
Another day, yes.
Of complexity and fun,
mixed with much drama.
Busy insane un-
crazy delicious day at work - just pure idiocy with the sake of idiocy. Screw it all. Work was done. We finished what we needed to.
I left the office a little late, headed to the gym (thunderboomers and rain precluded a training ride) - spent a while on the spinner bike prior to the spinner class - a very sweaty class, 1.5 hours.
Finished up a few things came home - then spent the evening dealing with correspondence, and domesticity. Gosh, my life is boorish.
Life is Boorish, sometimes.
Very very hot day. It got up to the low '90s (with humidity, felt like 97+ degrees). Work was just another day of stress - gee, how predictable. It was threatening to storm like a mo fo, so I skipped my training ride and headed to the gym - for an hour and half sweatfest. Finished up and came home and spent an hour cooling off in the pool, then with 15 minutes in the hot tub - oh sooo relaxing. Almost fell asleep. Finished up and spent the sleepy evening taking care of bills, and domesticity (including tallying my bike log file - so far on the 9th of July, 7,737 miles since the first of the year, pictured below)

Not a horrid Monday to go back to work. Minimal drama, and very fast productive day. I was waiting for the thunderboomers to begin - but they never came - so I suited up and biked out towards Clarks Gap and back (32 miles) then went to my spinner class for another really sweaty second workout (it was 90 degrees outside, with a lot of humidity). Finished up class and had a quick dinner with a special friend. Was nice.
Now, home for the evening full of domesticity.
Life is Good.
Woke up a little late this morning, but ready for the day to bike out to Harpers Ferry. It was fantastic weather - gentle breeze, sunshiny, nice puffy clouds. 52 miles total. Came home and went to the pool then took a long nap (my other afternoon plans fell thru). Woke up and spent the evening doing uber-domestic things. Sunday Night Anxiety settles in.
