Was a wonderful day. Woke up early and went on an awesome 52 mile roundtrip training ride out to Harpers Ferry. It was a little on the chilly side, but it was pretty. Slightly on the windy side - and threatening to rain. Never rained. Came home, took a quick power nap and showered up and headed to a friend's house for dinner and a movie. They provided an elaborate spread of Potato encrusted salmon, baked sweet potato, sesame green beans, and a barley salad - I pitched in with my grilled Korean BBQ Skewers (pictured above). We then watched The Island - was a really fantastic film with amazing special effects, albeit very long (2.5 hours). Overall, it was a really nice evening - we had a lot of laughs. Life is Good.

Work was a busy one today, thank goodness it's finally fucking Friday. I schlepped thru the day on fumes of coffee, nerves and just anxiousness to get the damn weekend on. All is well, all work got done, left on a good note or two. Left for a nice training ride out towards Hamilton - it was overcast, but beautiful, totalling 42 miles total. Finished and ran a few errands including picking up a few DVDs - Capote and The Ice Harvest. Came home, honched down some food and watched Capote - GREAT film. Spent a little time threading the marinaded korean beef onto the skewers for tomorrow's grilling fun while I talked with my brother. Then embarked on a silly adventure to go thru some old photographs that need to be organized (imagine shoeboxes full of about 15 years of photographs). It was fun to go thru them, albeit - a little daunting (only able to go thru about a 1/3 of them). I give you a funny selection of three photos, not anything remotely cool as the other nuggets I found, nonetheless - three photos. Will continue to relax more over the weekend, more cycling...coooking. I'm soo fucking predictable. Life is good.

Was a busy workday, followed by a 1.5 hour nice spinner training ride at the gym. Ran a few errands afterwards to pick up a few last minute provisions to begin a long marinade for some Korean Beef Skewers to be grilled on Saturday with some friends. Recipe for the marinade: 1 lb thinly sliced (to 1/4") beef sirloin/flank steaks, in 1" wide ribbon strips 1 cup soy sauce/tamari 2 tbsp sesame oil 1 tbsp Korean red pepper sauce 1 tbsp lime 1 tbsp rice vinegar 1 tbsp apricot preserves 2 scallions, sliced 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger 2 tbsp sesame seeds In a medium flat bottomed bowl, thouroughly wisk all ingredients together, add thinly sliced strips of beef - cover and chill for a day or so. Using skewers (metal or bamboo**), thread beef into long ribbons. Grill for about 3-5 minutes. ** if using bamboo skewers, soak in water overnight before using

Yet another very busy day at work, un-replete without drama and bullshit. I just coasted thru the day on many cups of coffee and inspiration that I was going to head out to the gym for a sweatfest afterwards. Headed to the gym and hopped on the spinner cycle for 2 hours, was a fantastic workout. Finished up and ran a few errands before coming home to domesticity and an hour to watch Lost (my tv time is becoming increasingly little and littler these days - I just don't give a crap about all the crap that's on tv, zero need to keep up). I spent the evening organizing a few gardening things in anticipation for my deck garden, and payed a few bills. Such is life. Bills and Plants. In the process of shuffling through a few old boxes, I found some photos of my life in NYC - had to set them aside and wait for the weekend to look at them all. They are a blast. My life as a twenty-something, arty freak with super long hair and funky friends. Ahh, the fun. Will need to have a good bottle of Merlot while I re-look at them over the weekend. Speaking of the weekend, I'm looking forward to going over to a dear friend's house over the weekend for a dinner/movie thang that she's sort of established a few months ago. Such a great host - and a lot of fun. I'm gonna bring over some marinated spicy beef skewers to put on the grill. So simple, yet fun and tasty as hell. Crazy delicious. More work for the rest of the week - looking forward to a relaxing/productive weekend. Life is Good.

I realize that I've been a little sporatic in my postings in the past week or so - but it is almost Spring (actually it is officially Spring now). I'm finishing up a few loose ends and whatnot before the cycling season comes into full fruition. This week with work has been a wild mess of corporeal idiocracy - but it's allowed me to refocus on a few things. This teemed with a new regiment with my cycling training. From some advice of a few cycling comrads, I've adjusted my training strategy for this season. Granted I have always maintained the proper nutrition, equipment, & drive - the few things I've had to adjust is my training regiment. During the time when it's still chilly out (or even freezing), I was advised to not train daily in these conditions. Pains me to NOT go out daily in all the adverse conditions - because I love the scenery and opportunity to see the sunset even if it is almost 20 degrees out. It's not a good training technique - especially for the sorts of events that I'm actually training for. So I've been selectively opting for a day or 3 a week at the gym to be on the spinner cycles (for 1.5-2.5 hours at a time) so that I can concentrate on my "climbing" skills while I wait for the weather temperatures to be more optimal. And since for a few weeks I've been doing this - I can see a MAJOR fitness level change, especially when I go out and tackle the real hills. One downside to this - is that it has made me very tired in the late evenings, which is probably a good thing. Generally, I have a tendency to overdue things - and not sleep as well as I should. If I sleep at all. I generally sleep about 5 hours a night. Anything more than 8 hours makes my back hurt. But with this new regiment, I sleep close to about 6 hours of a HARD sleep. The spinner training I do at the gym is a great workout - about 2 hours usually, hard core fast spinner action with sprints for about 2 minutes for every 8-10 minutes. It's great to have my iPod Nano as a companion. When I'm done, not one thread of my clothes is not soaked with about a gallon of sweat. Granted I finish 2 large water bottles w/ 4 enduralyte capsules during this plus 2 gel packs. I feel exhilirated afterwards - yet bushed. I have a recovery regiment of sorts. Then an evening of dinner & domesticity. I find myself wanting to go to bed at 10pm - so unlike me. I'm usually up to about 1am. Anyhoo. Sidenote, I was shopping online for a secondary Shimano Ultegra 9 speed cassette cog for my old wheelset (tired of swapping them back and fourth - and the one I have has over 20,000 miles on it, showing age). Fortunately, they are super cheap now. I'm trying to build up a second bike for a trainer I have at home, slowly swapping out parts. Someone asked me in a comment on this blog a few days ago about my Post-It notes (from a reference I made). I am a strange posterchild of that 3M product, being that I've had an ongoing art project that has spanned many years (since 1997) - over 30,000+ Post-It notes. More about this here: My Post-It Notes. That represents only a small fraction of the project, which has not been updated in a few years. Suffice to say, it's an ongoing project. When I catch up with other projects, I'll have time to revisit the formalization of all of the splendor of what it all means - the history thru the process, all the photos, et al. Just not enough hours in the day. Like miles on a bike. In the meantime, Life is Good.
