Heading out tomorrow to drive down to Boone, NC for the
2006 Blood, Sweat & Gears Century. Picture above is from the mass start of last year's "BSG". This is gonna be farking difficult. Not to mention the long ass drive I have to make down there...and then back on Sunday.
I like the funny descriptions from the ride details "The BSG is a full English century - 100 mile loop ride starting and ending at the Valle Crucis Elementary School, approximately 5 miles south of Boone, North Carolina. The route roughly circles Boone through the outskirts of Watauga County, the heart of North Carolina's High Country. The terrain is constantly changing with hills of all lengths and curves too numerous to count. The cumulative climbing elevation is 13,000+ feet, with the climb up to the gap at Snake Mountain, milepoint 63, reaching an 18-20% grade near the top. Riders reaching the Cove Creek aid station (milepoint 82) after 2:30pm will be directed to the finish at Valle Crucis, resulting in a total distance ride of 87 miles." A 18-20% road grade is a Category 1 ride - for a cyclist, it's steep as shit. I must be a glutton for punishment :)
Today was a busy day of sorts, trying to finish up things at work (offsite meeting took all morning), and a sweatfest of a spinner ride at the gym afterwards. Came home to pack, run errands and just get all my ducks in a row for the weekend.
Wish me luck - this is gonna be farkin wild (a little angered by the fact that it may rain/thunderstorm on race day...grrr. But I'll be cautious on the descents. )
Will be back on Sunday...and I won't get dead :)
Life is Challenging :)
Comments:
Have a great time, I'll be hoping for no rain on race day.
Looking forward to hearing how it went!

Was a very busy day. Trying to prepare for the weekend. Work was semi-shitty. Spinner workout at gym after work was great.
Life is sometimes Frustrating

I know I've been in a funk for a while...stress...work...my training...exhaustion from all the cycling and everything else - BUT, I have also been in a good funk of smiles. Tonight, I met up with my special friend who invited me to see the Doobie Brothers at Wolftrap (on the lawn). The music was fantastic, as the Doobies go - I packed up a quick picnic thing for us to just enjoy the spectacular weather, music and each other. That was the highlight of my day :)
Work was just a ho hum of drama and productivity per usual. I went to the gym afterwards to destress and bike for about an hour and 20 minutes - total sweatfest (I should be taking it easy before the Blood Sweat & Gears this weekend). SO it was a fantastic day overall :)
Sore from the View Trail 100. Mondays suck (always, workwise) - oh well. It was hot, thunderstormy. Went to the gym for a really nasty 2.5 hour spinner debacle. But felt great. Forgot to mention that I finally calculated my mileage for this year: 6,805 miles thus far.
Life is Good
Hot hot hot. The temperature rose, I decided to sleep in and bask in my air conditioning. Woke up super late and very sore from yesterday's Century and all the driving. Took in a very leisurely high cadence 25 mile "stretch" ride. Came home and changed and went to the pool to relax and dip in the water and then read while the sun attempted to even up my wicked cycling tan...it will never happen.
Finished up the evening with time in my deck garden doing those chores while listening to STYX play at Live at Belmont across rt 7. Just a pleasant day...and an exhausting weekend. But I'm ready for a short dramatic work week - I have Friday off to drive 12 hours down to Boone, NC for the Blood, Sweat & Gears century. This is gonna be wicked. I hope we have good weather for it.
Life is Fantastic :)
