What a rainy yet wonderful Spring day. I slept in this morning after a late night, and just slummed around the house getting prepared for the dinner party I was hosting for my parents. And it was a wonderful dinner party with my parents (pictured below) - I made Roasted Leg of Lamb, Cauliflower in a garlic infused macadamia nut oil, and Sesame Green Beans. We had a wonderful time catching up and telling stories over wine, beer, dinner, coffee and dessert (Mom brought brownies). We finished up and they had to head out in the rain to drive home - and I cleaned up and put things away, now ready to embark on an evening of relaxation - a movie and sorts. Relaxing Saturday - no training ride today, I overtrained this week, I needed a day off. Life is Good photo by d. scott gregory Deck 04/22/2006 click on photo to enlarge |

Post 777. Friday - wonderful Friday. I'm soo happy to see this day. I woke up very tired and sore and still hugged and kissed the day as if she was my lover. Work was a typical mess of stupidity - but I endured it, as I do every day. Pathetic. It was raining all day - and will do thru the rest of the weekend. It's ok - we need the rain, I can be at the gym or just relax for a change. I think I've been overtraining. After work, I decided to forego my training...and run some errands (I am sore still) - picked up a few homely DVDs for the weekend (Oh barf... One Hour Photo [which I've never seen before - with Robin Williams], Pretty in Pink (a nostalgic blast from the past) and Basketball Diaries (written by Jim Caroll...original book...but starring Leonardo DeCaprio, pre-Titantic days). I've seen both PnP and BD in the past...but just good homely movies to relax over the weekend while I finish preparing to have my parents over for a dinner party. I watched One Hour Photo - talk about totally fucked up yet enjoyable, in a pathetic humanistic spectrum of sorts. Welp, I am fricken exhausted - it's thundering outside, I finished stuffing the leg of lamb with fresh rosemary & garlic slivers, the cauliflower is soaking in it's own flavored chardonnay, madacamia nut oil, oregano, garlic & other stuff. Dinner tomorrow night is going to be...spectacular. Life is Rainy & Spring, yet Good.

Can this week get more exhausting? Oy vay! At least the weather was more than cooperative today - in fact it was farking beautiful...and warm. In the late afternoon, it got up to about 82 degrees, clear skies, gentle Spring breeze. I had a (to be expected) very busy day in the office - with an all day meeting with a client. It was frickin exhausting going over details and then discovering a lack of oversight - to which we then spent the rest of the afternoon discussing. Good thing we order lunch in - I was exhausted from all of it. I decided to abuse myself even more by suiting up after work - to go out for an hour and 15 minutes on a pre-training stretch ride before I met up with my cycling club. I did stop by one of my bike stores along the route to get a new pair of cycling gloves (I have maybe 10-12 pairs...but my fave pair had suddenly fallen apart with the acidity of sweat and salt - pisses me off, they all cost about 35 bucks. I figured that I have spent 350 bucks on just cycling gloves in the past 3 years). Then I finally met up with my cycling comrades - there musta been about 100 of us in the parking lot - in all divisions, we all broke out in packs of about 30. It was an explosion of color and poetry in motion. We broke into a paceline and did the Alkonkian loop from Herndon, thru Sterling, then up into Ashburn, thru Great Falls, and finally back to Herndon. 28 miles total from the group training ride (I did 22 miles prior to the ride, and 4 miles to get back to my car; totalling 54 miles). I was frickin exhausted. I biked from 4:45-7:45 - I was in great spirits, completely covered in salt deposits, wafting thru areas where the sun was about to set and we discovered pockets of cool air in the break of the paceline. The unfortunate part of this, was that I didn't apply sunscreen - and got a wicked sunburn. So on the way home I had to pick up a few things - including a supply of the spray on sweatproof 30spf sunscreen - not cheap..generally @ 8-12 bucks a spray can. I go thru about 10 cans during the season. I wish Costco would carry this for a discount. Came home and prepped for work, changed clothes, took a shower and settled into a relaxing evening of a little tv and a quick meal after watering my garden (how predictable). My skin is soo hot, I applied some aloe and had a quick beer on my deck and pondered the rest of the Spring before it becomes full fledge summer. Tomorrow is Friday - will be hopefully a drama-free day at the office. Supposed to rain all day, with thunderboomers in the afternoon. I'll prolly go to the gym for an hour and then run last minute errands for the weekend's festivities. Life is a Sunburned Tight-Assed Ultra-Marathon Cyclist

Exhausting day of sorts. Little to report other than the ordinary. Long ass dramatic day at work, hour cycling ride in the wonderful Spring weather, came back and went to the gym to do a 1.5 hour spinner class to train for the hills. Finished up and ran a few errandes to prep for my dinner party then embarked on domesticity and little tv boredom. Life is Ordinary

Yawns like a mo fo. It was a very busy day. Work was very productive and tiresome. Went on a nice 44 mile training ride out to Purcellville and back - perfect weather, low 70s, sunshiny. Ran a few errands on the way home - seems everything is expensive now because of the gas prices. Gassed up my car at the cheapest place I could find - at Costco, $2.81 a gallon - most places is over 3 bucks a gallon for the cheapest grade. Picked up a few things at Costco and headed home to embark on some large scale domestic chores...laundry....vaccuuming...as much as I could fit into the time before I took a quick nap (not intentionally) on the couch after a meal, Felt great tho. The rest of the week will be very busy, and overplanned to accommodate my parent's visit over the weekend for a tiny dinner party for them. Life is Springlike

Monday, monday.... Woke up after a rough night of little sleep (thunderboomers kept waking me up). It was still raining in the morning - and throughout the day. Work was a blur of drama - not much to say about this...just stupid ass drama. But it was a relatively productive day. I went to the gym afterwards and was on the spinner bike for an hour and then did an advanced spinner class. I was tuckered out. Came home after a quick errand - for an evening of domesticity and a little tv. I'm wiped out - may go to bed early.

Twas a fantastic weekend - Easter today. No holiday plans, I haven't "celebrated" Easter since I was a child. So no drama to be told in that department. I spent the better part of the day cycling and time in my garden and cleaning up. I had a rather unfortunate event in my kitchen after I had completely cleaned my kitchen. I was unloading my dishwasher, and the last item I took out of the dishwasher was my coffee thermos - one of those large caraf style thermos things that keeps coffee warm for 12+ hours - it exploded. Literally. It made this loud ass gunfire sound and then I found myself completely covered in tiny shards of mirrored glass (good thing I wear glasses). The silver glass shards exploded all over my kitchen and into my livingroom and dining room. My first thought was about all the glass in my coffee maker, which I had just cleaned - drinking coffee and ingesting glass. Arrrggg!!! Suffice to say, I spent the next 2 hours cleaning up all the glass shards and re-cleaning everything. Grrr! Afterwards, I took a shower (I still had glass all over me) and cleaned the bathroom then took a nap. Woke up in the early evening and ran to the store to get a few things for the week. Sunday nights suck, but life is good. photo by d. scott gregory Thermos Explosion click on photo to enlarge |
