Crappy day of sorts. In the late evening/early morning - I suffered a nasty scenario of bad digestive system GI mayhem. Suffice to say, I was not in any way going to work with this condition. I called into work and said I'd not be in. Did mention that I may be in later if I felt better. Then spent the day in bed and in the bathroom ... was not a fun day. About 7pm, I felt better. I ran out to do a few errands and came home to watch a DVD - of all things, this incredibly sophmoric movie "Waiting" - it was a funny film, but now I'll never trust my waitstaff if I go to a mainstream franchise restaraunt. Spent the rest of the evening doing other organizational crap - installed my scanner and re-strung my classical guitar strings (failed miserably, clipped the strings before noticing that one was out of sync...grr....note to self, need another set of strings). Life moves on tomorrow.

Super dooper day of sorts. Work was a busy one - I was in a strange giddy mood, even if it was overcast, rainy and borderline chilly. I resigned myself in the afternoon to go to the gym to be on the spinner bike instead of being out and getting caught in the cold rain (it was supposed to rain @ 5:30, but it eventually did not) on my bike outside. I'm trying to avoid getting sick with all the shifts in temperature. I had a great workout at the gym - probably sweated a gallon. Felt refreshing. Ran a few errands on the way home - even got passport photos for the renewal of my passport at the mall. As much as I hate the mall, I had a weird blast. Picked up a new Life is Good hat with a bicycle embroidered on it, a Life is Good travel mug, a car adaptor for my new iPod Nano and some other crap. Picked up a gyro at the food court to go. Came home for a night of mixed chores and domesticity. Life is Good.

(Alanis Morissette lyric re-written for today): That I would be good... ...when I got to work on time ...even if I went on a bike ride ...learned to nourish myself
That would be fine... ...if I relished some part of the day ...to be loved unconditionally ...when I find a level of hope
That would be grand... ...if love found me silly ...to recognize what it means ...when I finally grow up
That I would be
good Was a very busy day of sorts. Glad it's over. Just the usual workday aschew with faux-excitement, idiocy, drama, & lunacy teemed with crisis management. I left work with a colleague to go to of all places...the MALL...so we could pick up a few things at the Mac store (I got the Nike armband for my new iPod Nano). Came back, went to the gym and spent an hour on the spinner bike, jamming to everything from The Crystal Method to Ramones to Dave Brubeck to Beasty Boys to John Coltrane. It was fantastic. Worked up a nice sweat and then eventually came home for an evening of domesticity. The rest of the week is going to be continually busy. But I like the challenge.

Culturally, I was peer-pressure-bullied into finally getting an iPod. Well, I should correct myself. I held out for years to not get one. Now it's a necessity - especially when I go to the gym and spend 1-2 hours on the spinner bike training (when the weather is shitty, et al). I succummed to the sirens who I couldn't keep my eyes toothpicked open - I went ahead and bought one. And what a strange, glorious thing it is. Hooked the slim fucker up and downloaded almost my entire collection of fave tunes and put it on shuffle. I'm hooked. Found a really cool iPod arm band for us cycling freaks - made by Nike, will have to pick one up this week. Fixation and excitement aside, work was another busy day of sorts. Finished up and went out on a really pretty sunsetty ride out to Hamilton - it was chilly, but fun. Saw many of my cycling buddies out there - ready for the season to start. Came home (after stopping off and getting my new Nano iPod) and spent the evening finishing my taxes (bleah) and programming my iPod. How pathetic. But, life is good.

Monday Monday.... But a slow one that it was (at work) - for a change. The temperatures dropped and the day flew by with no flurries. But it was still too chilly and windy for me to do a training ride - so I headed to the gym and waltzed on the spinner bike for an hour and a half. Worked up a great sweat, then spent about 20 minutes in the sauna. Felt great. Came home after an errand or two, and decided to spend the evening cooking Mahi Mahi (shark), and took some photos for the 2006 cookbook - I created this recipe, very simple: Grilled Mahi Mahi on a bed of Asparagus and Bean Sprouts topped with Caviar2 fillets of Mahi Mahi (about 6 onces each) 1 lime, juiced 1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger 1 tablespoon sesame oil 2 tablespoons soy sauce or dark tamari 2 scallions, thinly sliced (for marenade + garnish) chive sprigs (for garnish) salt and pepper to taste Using a grill, or a grill pan - prepare to be on medium to high heat. Dust fillets with salt and pepper, set aside. In a medium shallow dish, prepare quick marenade combining lime juice, ginger, sesame oil, soy sauce, and a handfull of scallions - wisk ingredients. Dredge the fillets in the merenade and set aside for about 20 minutes. Check grill and after the fillets are properly soaked, place on grill - grill until the outside is opaque and the inside is partially pink. Suggestion: Serve on a bed of large crispy bean sprouts and cooked asparagus, dollop a small bit of caviar on top, and garnish with the left over scallions and chives. photo by d. scott gregory Grilled Mahi Mahi 1 click on photo to enlarge |

my mind is... (XXV) my mind is
a big hunk of irrevocable nothing which touch and taste and smell
and hearing and sight keep hitting and chipping with sharp fatal tools
in an agony of sensual chisels i perform squirms of chrome and ex
-ecute strides of cobalt
nevertheless i
feel that i cleverly am being altered that i slightly am becoming
something a little different, in fact
myself
Hereupon helpless i utter lilac shrieks and scarlet bellowings. e.e. cummings I've been reading a lot of poetry these days, another solace of sorts, helps in my own writing projects. I won't wax politics nor poetics. Today was a cold windy day - just slummed around doing domestic stuff, writing, catching up on things. Went on a training ride in the afternoon - was too frustrating, too windy. Came home and went to my gym, worked out with weights. Came home and took a nap, then spent the evening doing more writing and preparations for the work week. life is like poetry.
