Relatively shitty day. Woke up with more reminants of my cold. Work was full of idiosavant corporate drama. The weather was crazy with the winds and the temps dropped. I decided to forego my training ride because of the conditions...and more importantly...didn't want to agitate the healing process of my cold. So I left work and did a little shopping for a few things and came home to deal with some domesticity issues. Settled in for an evening of more domesticity and crappy tv. I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend.

Sorta a strange day - mostly meteorologically. Woke up after a night of some crazy winds blowing my deck furniture all over the place, slept horribly - and opened the blinds to snow. Just flurries, but the sky was wild with drama - a combination of a sunrise, and dark clouds - the winds were throwing the clouds by fast. Work was just pure idiocy - I was ready to get out of there and go cycling, but the weather kept fluxuation between flurries, overcast, and a sunny day. photo by d. scott gregory Freaky Angry Cloud Sunset click on photo to enlarge |
The wind gusts were getting out of hand. I was hesitant to bike - but second day voyage on my new Orbea...I had to give it a try. It was about 44 degrees with a 30 degree index - and windy as hell....but I went off. It was a full headwind out towards Leesburg - I was only to Ashburn Road in a full workout. I was almost completely worn out from the headwind - 35mph gusts. I determined that it was too dangerous to continue - and the wind was getting too annoying, and cold. I turned around and flew home. Finished up completely frozen and drove to the grocery store to pick up a few things. There was this crazy angry cloud sunset in the parking lot that I had to take a picture of (above). Drove home for an evening of domesticity - I'm still having reminents of the bad cold I had, so I didn't want to push it too hard. Time to catch up on things, and watch a little tv...just relax. Life is good.

Back at work after a shitty few days with a horrid cold. Was a productive day of sorts, little drama - but still work. Cruized thru the day with an offsite meeting and then back to homebase for finishing up crap. I wasn't thinking of anything but taking my maiden voyage on my new Orbea and Kyserium wheels after work. Which I promptly did. Suited up and escaped the office and hopped on my new baby and biked out to Peonean Springs - it was still light out, I didn't bother to put on my lights - but what a FANTASTIC ride. It was a little chilly and gusty - but my gosh, that Orbea is a schweet ride. It is very comfortable, the carbon fiber took the vibrations very well, and the sturdy featherweight wheels just took all the bounces & cracks. The only real difference is that the bike is almost a little too light - a gust of wind almost toppled me over. The other is the rather pronounced fishing reel sound of the freewheel with the new wheelset - aluminum has that aural tinny sound eminating effect. Overall, I'm more than pleased with my new upgrade. Finished up after 36 miles, came home and spent the evening doing correspondence and paying bills. Prepared for work... Fin.

Bleah! Still sick. Woke up this morning feeling like total crap. Pained me to have to call the office and say I wasn't gonna be in - hell, I would have infected everyone with the seemingly gallons of mucous coming out of all parts of my head. I spent the day in bed sleeping and hydrating. I called into the office a time or two - I wasn't missing much. I did make arrangements to meet with one of my colleagues later in the late afternoon to meet for her to pass me on my new Kyserium wheelset which arrived today (at the office) on my way to return a DVD. Came home and assembled my wheelset and retired my old wheelset to the new cycling graveyard (pictured). I'll be in the office tomorrow whether I feel good or not - too much work to do. Pictures below of my Orbea with the new Kyserium wheelset (click to enlarge) - I'm psyched to take her for a maiden voyage tomorrow - I hope the weather is cooperative. photo by d. scott gregory Orbea with new Kyseriums 1 click on photo to enlarge |
