I'm no longer in denial - I'm finally moving. This is a fact because I put a new set of keys on my keyring. Gee, that's a reality. Kidding aside - I've been waiting for this day for a while. I'll have access tomorrow to move a few small things over and set up a few things before my movers come over on Monday to move the entire enchelada. The two unimpressive photos shown here are of the facade of the building complex I'm moving into - one of about 500+ apartments in a village complex, complete with 3 clubhouses with business centers, pools, full gyms - great safe community. In addition to my apartment..I have a carport. I'll post more photos after I move and get things set up. photo by d. scott gregory Facade of apartment click to enlarge |
Got up late this morning - too tired from staying up late packing and organizing stuff. Set out to of all places - Walmart and Target, managed to get a bunch of things from new sheets to a welcome mat. Came home, packed more and finalized some paperwork then headed out towards my new place - stopped by Ashcroft Commons (new shopping area about a mile from my new place) - to check out the grocery store & the drive thru Starbucks. Then stopped by the leasing office to pick up my various keys & fobs & passes, et al. Then picked up my first full mailbox full of bills and junkmail. But the place is finally mine. I'll be there tomorrow in the afternoon - setting up stuff. Pardon my french, I'm so fucking happy.

It's amazing how time seems to fly when you get older. The older I get the faster the perception of time seems to increase. What seems like a week now feels like a day. What a decade felt like is now the feeling of a year. Time just passes by wayyy too fast. Enuff waxing stupidity - I have zero time at the moment to ponder crap. Just lotsa packing and planning. I'm almost done. Just trivial things. I did order a new computer last night...should be here in a week..well...in my new place in a week. It's a Dell (yea, dude..I ordered a Dell...). It's a schweet machine - 160 Gig harddrive, 17" flat screen LCD monitor + 19" flat screen LCD monitor (dual video), DVD/CD burner (smart drive), the whole shebang....including a free color printer, heavy end video card setup, audio matrix and a 100 watt 6 channel surround sound system with a hugeass subwoofer. I'm psyched. Not bad for under a quick thousand. photo by d. scott gregory My new hometown towards Purcellville |
Work was just a silly diversion...everyone knew I was ready to totally bone out of there....so that I did...and promptly (but before I had a very nice housewarming gift given to me by one of my dear colleagues - very sweet). It was beautiful weather and knew I was going to do a good training ride - because my days were going to be busy the next week. I went the whole enchellada - (for a weeknight ride) - all 46 miles. I time trialed it...just hammered it until I was a sloppy glob of sweat with ubertastic lactic acid legs. Perfect thing to do in inspiration of the TDF this week. Went to Big Lots again after work to get a few things I missed (those fuckers don't have plain white...or any shower curtain liners). Then came home...quick dinner...then a full agenda of packing more stuff...oy vay. Tomoroow gonna be a packed day - will pick up the keys...then sunday will do a dry run over...drop a few things off..in preparation for the move on Monday.

Whoa! Up to my eyeballs in planning and packing. Almost done - just all the silly details. Signed my lease today and checked out the soon-to-be quick commute to and from work (non-rush-hour traffic) - was only 15 minutes. Will probably be be more like 35-45 minutes during rush-hour....so if I discover this..I'll just bike it (on cool days...no dramatic weather...in 25 minutes. Work was a panzy ass drama for the sake of drama - kidding...it was actually quite productive. My afternoon errand/lunch break (sheesh..I only take lunch breaks when I need to run an errand...) made the day tolerable - field trip within the day to break things up (I had this boss a long time ago that once said "those who take a lunch... are lunch" - asshole fear tactics). Finished up work and did a fast 46 miler to beat the thunderstorms which are plaguing the area as I speak (tornados, hail, flooding, dangerous lightning) - it was a little cooler which was nice - but I still consumed 4 liters of water/gatorade mixture in 2.5 hours. I was "ripe" when I finished. Took a quick meander in the downpour over to Big Lots to stock up on several cleaning supplies, et al for my new place.... the usual,.... laundry detergent, dryer sheets, sponges, dishwashing detergent, dishwasER detergent, bottle brush, swiffer with full assembly + 10 sheets, windex, bathroom cleaner, shower scrubber, kitchen bags, toilet cleaner, toilet paper, paper towels, fabreeze.....and a few things I cannot think of...all for under 20 bucks. Gotta love Big Lots. Came home, woofed down dinner and have been packing since (gee, damnit..I forgot to get a shower curtain liner...crap - I'd better have my TP ready to unpack...). Game plan - going on Saturday afternoon to pick up keys - do a walk thru and sign off. Physically not allowed to move in until Sunday 10th - which I will initially take a few things over in preparation...and make sure utilities are hooked up/continued. Toss up a shower curtain, put in some TP...put bottled water in fridge, have paper towels handy...and such like that. I'm still totally stoked - I'm all ready to get all boney on it....

What a busy day today. But first I have to say - I'm really excited to move this next monday. I peed a little in anticipation...almost. Got my high speed internet lined up to be connected on the day I move in - not that I'll have much time to deal with it. I have just too much to do and by myself - I'll take a day or so break from posting this blog until I get setup (there is a "business center" which I have access to for doing internet stuff...free to use as a "member"..up until 11pm) - I'll have little time to do anything...while maintaining my cycling training...but I'll miss the 11th. Even though it's stressful as hell to move..it's exciting..I get to start afresh...I'm ordering a new computer (more on this tomorrow)...some new things..patio furniture...towels, sheets, et al....I want it all to come together so I can move in..and really start enjoying the summer...and what not...

What a hot n hazy day - just humid as hell. Not much to say other than I'm up past my eyeballs in packing and moving preparations (the movers are scheduled to come on moday morning, all utilities are confirmed, finished getting renter's insurance, oh all the idiotic yet important detail - best part is that my commute to work is 1/3 what it is now...so I called my car insurance to have my address changed...and I just saved a bunch of money by telling Geico) Work was a blurry day of drama - mixed with getting back to post-4th of July stuff. Day whirred by - with one huge thunderstorm and lights out for a few minutes. It all dried up and calmed down before I left to go on a training ride out to ALexandria. Was a nice humid ride - I think I lost about 7lbs in just sweating. Felt great. Came back, ran a quick errand - came home..ate dinner..then started more preparations (oh the drama of changing addresses online...quite tedious). Welp...back to that.....

Happy 4th of July, oh bang bang, she bang a bang... photo by d. scott gregory Patriotic House - Fourth of July, 2005 click to enlarge |
Oy vay - woke up a little stiff and sore. Well, always stiff - but mostly sore. Yesterday was unusually brutal on the body. I think I'm having a little stress induced anxiety sores. Just worn out from doing too much and planning too much - combined with the whole stress of moving in a week from today. I need to calm down - take a breather. In and out...phew. Fuck, still stressed. I slept in this morning after a whole series of crappy enxiety induced nightmares - most of which I have blocked by now. The best one was I was greeted by my neighbors and they asked me "so how do you like Indianapolis?" i was all worried of my commute to Indianapolis and home daily - because my job is here and I need the job to pay the rent..and ...grr...damn stress. Was just a nightmare. photo by d. scott gregory Neighbor's Fireworks - Fourth of July, 2005 click to enlarge |
Today was a hot one - I curtailed any chores at home, will pack later so I headed out to my new apartment area just to familiarize myself with the area. It's kinda "uppity" - very affluent, those who live there (mostly golfers - so the demographic is different, and the shopping areas are ...kinda snobby) - there is a shopping center/area about a mile from my new place - the staple of suburbia (Target, Michaels, a large yuppyesque grocery store, blockbuster, gas station, et al...). I was suprized how close I am to the Potomac River - less than a mile. Finished up and drove to Vienna to do a quick stretch/training ride which turned into a craptacular 44 mile sweatfest. Felt great afterwards. Came home and had a really nice grilled steak dinner with marsalla sauteed mushrooms & onions, corn on the cob and a great salad of mixed greens. photo by d. scott gregory Neighbor's Fireworks - Fourth of July, 2005 click to enlarge |
Packed stuff and watched a little tv with some Fourth of July firework action mixed with sappy Boston Pops overtures...we need to update that shit... Play Ween with the fireworks....or Prodigy - that would be cool. I stepped out front and snapped a few pics of the house (pictured, click to enlarge) - looking all Patriotic and Fourth of Julyesque - lit flag at night. I also took a few pics of the neighbors shooting a few wimpy fireworks, was still pretty. Now I'm up to my eyeballs in a set of notes and indexes of notes as to all the crap I need to do /plan before I move in a week. Good thing this time next week - I'll be in my new place and tired as shit...but will be loving it. Now for the start of a new workweek - meh.....

Does my best Christopher Walkin impression, "Woweee wow wow wow!" What a fabulous day. Not only was it perfect weather (a little on the hot & humid side, few clouds, gentle breeze) - just a relaxing day sandwiched between two days off work. Spent the morning finishing up a deck project with my father - was alot of fun farting around with him. Finished up in the early afternoon - then ran a few errands, got me a Costco membership (oy vay) and then shopped for a new vacuum at both Walmart (blah!) and Target - got me a new Dirt Devil. Dag yo, It's the "tits" and din't cost me much "cheddah". Drove out to Vienna and embarked on a seemingly long but breezy 58 mile training ride. Big mistake - forgot to apply the Body Glide. No details given, but that intimate saddle area is quite tender. The heat doesn't help. I biked back from Hamilton with a few Tri girls. Spunky youngins full of energy. Came home and had some leftover Gumbo that i made a while ago (was frozen) - good stuff, made my arms sweat. Then packed a little then took a far too long break and watched the movie Patton - which I have never seen in it's entirety. Long ass film. He was an interesting character - and had one of those English Bull Terriers. Tomorrow will be interesting - will hopefully pick up keys to the apartment (altho move in date is not until 10th) and then run some more errands (not to self, need shower curtain liner) and then go on a very long training ride - maybe 63 miles. Hope my saddle area heals a little - it's forgiving. Will watch some local fireworks, have some steak on the grill, pack more and then prepare for a short workweek.
