What a WONDERFUL day!. The weather was incredibly spectacular. I took a good long training ride in the morning out to Harpers Ferry - a perfect ride with the weather. Finished up and came home, cleaned up and headed over to my parents house just to hang out for a few hours. They are such a cute couple (pictured below). Came home and watched a little tv and spent the evening doing correspondence and a little more cleaning. I was going to embark on a cooking thang - but decided to blow it off. I'm worn out. Tomorrow will be a great day, weather or not. I'll be spending time with a special friend :) Life is GOOD! photo by d. scott gregory At Parent's House, 06/03/2006 click on photo to enlarge |

Another FANTASTIC day. Work sucked, but was productive. Sailed thru the day and finishing up things for the week to enjoy the weekend. Picked up my bike at my "wrench" and went to the gym for a very sweaty 2 hour spinner training session. Bumped into friends and just hung out :) Ran a few errands on the way home, including picking up a few DVDs (Date Movie - which was hilarious as shit... and Aeon Flux - not seen it yet, but loosely followed the movement of the non-movie series years ago). Spent the evening in full domestic mode, cleaned everything, vacuumed, cleaned bathroom top to bottom, kitchen top to bottom, did 3 loads of laundry and changed all of my linens, ran the dishwasher, cleaned out the fridge, took out the trash. Feels great to have a clean place (not that I'm a slob - just missed a week of domesticity while I was out of town last weekend). Watered my deck garden and ready to relax for the night with other organizational bullshit. Life is Good!

 Mountains of Misery, 2006 |
Another wonderful hot day. Even though it was a very busy and productive day at work - for the first time in a while, I felt fantastic with the progress of the project I'm involved with. The highlight of my day was getting a phone call from ABBA calling from home who asked me to do a personal favor invloving sending out a fax to a home/personal related project. I of course have no problem doing things like this - but when I'm busy as shit - it's sometimes a little distracting/demoralizing to do this. But no biggie. SO I forgot to put him on hold - just layed the phone down and went to make the FAX....on the way out I said (unfortunately within earshot of the phone) "What am I, his fucking personal secretary?!" I made the fax and came back to the phone. After I said I faxed his personal fax, he paused and said "Listen, I know it's not your job to be doing this - but I appreciate your help" I was like sooo busted...but I think he got the point. Laffs. Left work on time and headed to the gym, parked car and went out on a quick bikeride out to Leesburg in the 90+ degree heat. It was really hot and sweaty. Came back and went to the gym for my spinner class which was also hot - for 1.5 hours. It was a nice workout, but still very sore. I was glad I did the 20 miles before class. I'm enjoying all the company of the people in my spinner class - they think I'm a freak though after hearing stories of the Mountains of Misery. It's kinda funny. We all now tell century/cycling related stories - and we may start training together (a few of them are interested in doing the Reston Century - some for the first time). Came home to domesticity and correspondence, little tv, watered thirsty garden - will chill for the night. Life is GREAT!

Holy hell - I am sooo sore. It's usually the 2nd day after doing such a brutal ride that I get the full effects. Woke up this morning dehydrated, and every inch of my body, including my jaw and temples hurt (those because I tend to chench my jaw on the hard core fast ascents, getting up to 50mph - scary as shit). Popped 6 advil and took a shower. Went into work, and it was a fairly subtle yet productive/informative day. The heat outside got up to 94 degrees (heat index of 99 degrees) + muggy as hell. After work I opted to go to the gym and do an hour "stretch" ride on the spinner bike (in A/C) - then I came home after a quick errand or three and went to the pool for an hour before it closed. It was very relaxing - cooled me off too. Came home and watered my thirsty deck garden and embarked on an evening of silly domesticity and dinner. I'm trying to also slowly clean my place - may try to have company over the weekend. Life is Good and body is sore :)

Yay, I finished! The race went well, albeit much much too hot. It got up to the high 80s & low 90s. Made for a difficult race - I am utterly exhausted, even today. I finished the Double Metric Century (128 miles) in 9 hours and 26 seconds. My body is still radiating heat from the combination of overexertion, sun & heat. But I'll be fully recovered after tomorrow. I put together a quick photoalbum of the trip/event click on files ending with "LG" [ i.e., MoM2006_1_LG] for full view, "SM" is for thumbnails - just skip over those): 2006 Mountains of Misery Photo AlbumI'm still unpacking/preparing for the workweek & such...and trying to recover. This was by far the most ambitious cycling event I've participated in. I can sum up in the next few day - if I have time. Busy busy week ahead of me. But life is Fantastic!
