What a relaxing Fall day. Slept in real late after a night of carving my Man Ray Pumpkin (pictured below), and collecting enough raw pumpkin to roast this evening for my Pumpkin Soup. Took a really wet 52 mile bike ride out past Purcellville and into West Virginia - somewhat uneventfull, but just really wet. Came home and took a nice hot bath, cleaned up around the house and headed out on some evening errands - to the Home Goods store for some more crap to decorate my bedroom, and to the grocery store for last minute spices/provisions for the Pumpkin Soup. Came home and watched a little bit of a movie on tv while cutting, chopping, sauteing, and grinding all the components for the soup - finally put the pumpkin in the oven to bake. Wow, my place smells delicious. It's a long process - but it's oh sooo good. FInished up most of the soup to allow to simmer for a few hours while I unpacked all the crap I got at the Home Goods place and hung a few things. It's really starting to shape up. Tomorrow will be another relaxing day - sort of the same as today, but hopefully with less rain.

Wow, what a fucked up day. Albeit, I say that now in hindsight - I'm now relaxing and just about to prepare my pumpkin - more on this later. I was dreading work today with a whole drama that was going to unfold today with the unveiling of a new company manual, which outlines a whole slew of new regs and whatnot - all the stuff we already know, common sense, rules. But the whole thing was masterminded by ABBA, who is a total control freak - giving all employees basically zero rights, and pure CYA on the company. Spent the majority of the day dealing with the ramifications of the unveiling of the extended memo - it eventually didn't happen - too many questions and issues. So back to square one. Finished up what was left of the stressfull day while it was raining outside, getting cold - decided to unstress by going out on a quick, damp, yet long training ride out to Hamilton and back in the dark, totalling 38 miles. Got back to my car and changed into dry clothes and headed to the grocery store for provisions for the Pumkin Soup I'll be making tomorrow night. photo courtesy by Bird's Eye Photography Bridge to Bridge, 2005 click on photo to enlarge |
Stopped by Target and picked up a new floor lamp (pictured) and a few other things to finally "decorate" my minimal bedroom. Came home and unloaded the car and launched into a whole flurry of domesticity. I finally got the CD I ordered from Bird's Eye Photography of the large format photos (pictured)from the Bridge to Bridge. They did a great job - and a friend tells me that I have "a total look of determination on my face". I may have a few high rez prints made to give to my family for the holidays. I assembled my new lamp - looks great, fits well - then began prepping my pumpkin. illustration by d. scott gregory Man Ray Pumpkin Template click on graphic to enlarge |
I decided to make a Man Ray pumpkin - the other night, I made a template to use to guide carving the pumpkin (pictured). I'll watch a show my mother taped for me about Lance Armstrong, while spoon-shaving out the pumpkin, to make the walls thin enough to carve (the spoon-scraped raw pumpkin will be baked tomorrow night in preparation for my Pumpkin Soup). Welp, time for me to get cracking. May post photos of the pumpkin later or tomorrow night. Fun Fall evening.

Ugh.... That's about it. Work, biked in cold weather (44 miles) - now it's cold (wore leg warmers and full gloves for the first time this Fall). Ran errands after ride, came home - domesticity, chores - the a little TV. Boooring. Least tomorrow is Friday - before a hopefully relaxing weekend.

Yawn, yawn yawn. For some odd reason, I'm sleepy .... was all day long. I feel well, just tired. Beautiful weather out, just feeling sleepy. Maybe reminant tiresome from this past weekend's Savage Century. Work was a casual mess of stupid business - but a productive one. Glad it was over - was restless to get out of the office and bike out towards West Virginia. The weather was amazing, I suited up and headed out for the hills. Met up with a few of my club friends and we headed out past Purcellville - they like when I take the lead on the return, because it's dark, and I have the brightest dual beam lights. The temperature was oh so nice. Beautiful Fall sunset. 46 miles total. Came home after a few errands and did standard domestic crap, prepped for the next day and then commenced on work on my cookbook while watching a little tv....booooring. I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend... time to carve up my pumpkin and make a huge ass batch of pumpkin soup, enjoy the Fall weather....

What a beautiful 'effin day - pure Fall splendor. Woke up still a little sore, but managed to get to work and endure an actually leisurely day - little drama. Finished up and went on a very beautiful Fall sunset-esque 42 mile ride. It was almost warm the first part of it - then it got a little chilly. Put on my arm warmers and time trialed it home to stay warm, in the dark. A bat flew into my helmet - perfect October setting. Came home and did a few domestic things and cooked dinner while firing up a template of my print version of last year's cookbook - time to seriously get started (below is just 4 of the 42 pages of last year's cookbook - to re-brand, write, insert photos, create from scratch - but using a similar template): design by d. scott gregory 2004 Cookbook Template click to enlarge |

I'm now already tired - it's been a long day. Will fiddle with the cookbook - mostly organizational, and setup (I have all the recipes, photos, et al....just need to plug n play). Will also just relax tonight - enjoy the Fall breeze coming into my apartment.

Wow, woke up really sore. It usually happens the second day after a Century ride. Choked down 4 advil and some coffee, showered and went into the office. The day turned into a productive mayhem of productivity. I was eyeing the beautiful Fall weather out my window and hankered to get out there and bike. Which is what I promptly did after work (gee, imagine that). Just a quick stretch out ride - a mere 28 miles. I had errands to run, so I was glad I had to cut it short. One of my colleagues started running on the trail, I finished up with her last mile while we chatted about work and stuff - it was getting dark, I think she was appreciative - and appreciated the conversation on the last leg of her run. I packed up my cycling crap into my car and drove to Target to pick up a few things - including some new work pants (badly needed), track pants and a funky modular candle holder thingy (pure impulse buy). Came home to finish some domestic crap, prepare for the work day tomorrow, cook dinner and vegetate in front of the boob toob.

Woke up well rested, scarfed down a few bananas, some power bars, 5 enduralyte pills, cup of coffee and 2 red bulls - breakfast of champions, ha! Whata great weekend it has been. Spending time with my relatives, cycling, enjoying the Fall weather. Woke up this morning fully rested, yet a little sore. Helped make a huge breakfast with a few relatives - the whole works of bacon, eggs, fruit - and I was hongry. After much coffee and farewells, I had to hit the road to drive home. It was a beautiful Fall sunny day, but really windy. On the way home I decided to forego my stretch out ride in the afternoon (because of the wind) and see if my parents were game to get together - they were actually heading towards my home that afternoon on an errand, so we decided to meet up (they needed to deliver a few things at my place, kill 2 birds with one stone). photo by d. scott gregory New Leather Jacket click on photo to enlarge |
We met up, always great to see them, and their smiling faces. We met briefly because they had to run errands and I had to unpack and go shopping. I originally set out to just get a few things at Target and hit the grocery store - but then found myself at the Leesburg Outlet Mall, shopping for clothes and a few early Xmess presents. Suffice to say, I picked up a few Fall shirts at Geoffrey Beene & Eddie Bauer - then picked up a new leather jacket ($400 jacket for 95 bucks, pictured) - I could not pass it up. Went to the grocery store/Target, came home and unpacked, made dinner, prepared for the workweek, uploaded pics and blogged while watching tv. It's been an extremely busy, fun, productive weekend. Feels like Fall (in my new leather jacket - Leather Weather). Now Sunday Night anxiety settles in.
