I love my parents very much. I spent the afternoon and evening with them, slumming around at their crib. We had a few things they needed help with, moving a freezer so we could paint the laundry room - a more complex job than one would assume. Then of course the obligatory help with managing their computer/backup, et al. They are cute on many levels - about to retire, assuming their roles as grandparents and aging parents. We collaborated on a dinner of some perfectly grilled BBQ chicken, green beans and stuffed mushrooms (which I brought over the stuffing). Gave us a chance to catch up and share more stories, laugh, and share a mature evening of family time. The morning was a funny bust - I began to head out to Harpers Ferry, but the wind was horrendous. I got only 22 miles out there and had to swing back (44 miles total). To boot, it was wickedly cold. Came home and showered and headed out to my parents for the afternoon and evening. What a lovely evening. On the trip back, stopped by Target and bought a new food processor - a well needed item. At home for the evening, with chores, bill paying, and a DVD - may continue on a writing project a little later. I was sitting here a short while ago, hearing the wind outside and a freaky creak sound that I couldn't isolate...then all of a sudden...a SNAP!....one of the strings on my classical guitar just gave way. Grrr. Must be from all the weather changes. Note to self, buy 3 packs of classical guitar strings. Life is Banal.

Life is good, just a couple of pics, enclosed (click on photo to enlarge). To quickly sum up - long ass day, very productive, shitty morning with a dead battery in my car, time in DC doing business, got cold, albeit windy and sunsetty, 42 mile training ride in 34 degree temps, ran errands, had a haircut, rented a few DVDs, much domestic tasks at hand, re-wrapped my handlebars, pictured.....anyhoo photo by d. scott gregory Winter cycling outfit click on photo to enlarge |

Exhausted...yet very relaxed, comfortable after a really busy day...and a 42 mile training ride, dropped my bike off to get the gears re-indexed...went to have my car mini-detailed...ran errands, bank, grocery store...came home and started cooking. Spinach, garlic, andolie sausage chardonnay infused stuffing for the stuffed mushrooms to be baked on Saturday... I'm heading over to my parents on sat afternoon to help them with a few things around the house...then we gonna collaborate on a dinner...my mom said to bring the stuffing for the mushrooms...she's been craving it. Hence the cooking. Work was wild - I conducted a training seminar for a whole bunch of folks from the a client of ours...from 10am-3pm...I conducted the entire thang.... Finished my spinach mix that was steamed and then sauteed with garlic, cilantro, basil, scallions, red onion, serrano pepper, andouli sausage, spices, et al so I can add the homemade herbed wheat bread crumbs and grated pecorino romano cheese before I packaged it up. (got a postcard in the mail for my 20th high school reunion - in Anchorage, Alaska, this summer) Life is both strange, busy and full of the banal. photo by d. scott gregory Preparations for the spinach stuffing click on photo to enlarge |

I present a haiku for today's blog entry: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Today, work was fine. Yet induced cycling action. Sometimes, Life is Good. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fin I'm a fucking minimalist, I prefer the beauty of nothingness over the banality of idiocy

Yawn yawn yawn. Was a tiresome day of sorts. Just work. Sunny and semi chilly day. Did a training ride out past Hamilton, 42 miles total. Work is wearing me out. Came home and dealt with domesticity. A little tv and chores. Life is ordinary.

President's Day - low on the priority list for any level of celebration, being that my corporate office doesn't observe it as a holiday (even thout the majority of our clients had off today). So the day was a casual day of sorts to catch up on some infrastructural business - and lots of unproductivity. So be it. The temperature dramatically changed during the day - but presented itself to what this year should be. I finished up work and went on a very sunsetty, albeit frosty training ride out to Purcellville and back - 44 miles. A mere celebration for the lack of riding I couldn't do over the weekend because of the chilly temps. Came home and catched up on some correspondence, cleanup, domesticity and pure tv boob tube idiocy. Life is fair.

It was a fun & relaxing weekend. We all slept in real late and then went out and had lunch at an Indian restaurant. It was cold as shit out - it was 14 degrees (10 degrees Celcius) at 2am, with an index of 0 degrees [minus 18 degrees Celcius]). My place couldn't stay warm, so it was nice to be able to sleep in. We kinda bummed around the house before we went out, had lunch and ran a few errands. In the afternoon, it warmed up to be about 40 degrees, the sun was out. I said farewell to my friends and they drove home. I went to the gym and worked out for about an hour and a half, came home, took a short nap and spending the evening relaxing in front of the boob tube and preparing for the workweek, cleaning up after the festivities. Life is GRAND.
