Had a waaayyy too late night last night - but was incredibly productive. I managed to finish the walk in closet - able to put away all my clothes, did 4 loads of laundry, put boxes into storage. The place is shaping up. Now I have a wall of empty boxes I need to break down and haul to the compactor (tommorrow). I slept in til about 3pm! What a slacker - but I was up until 7am. I went on a 54 mile training ride out into the hills. Felt great to haul ass up some hills. It was hot as hell, I sweat gallons. Got home and took a quick dip in the pool and then went out to run some errands - Home Goods and Home Depot. I was too late to get to Office Depot (closed at 10pm). However - I scored a great deal on some new plates/bowls/serving dishes. I really like the oversized plates and bowls - all white, simple modern design - a culinary wet dream. I managed to also score 5 window/rail boxes at Home Depot - I'll hang them tomorrow. I didn't get the soil or any of the plants - it was getting late and there was a horrific thunderstorm happening with a torrential downpour that kept going on for 2 hours. Came home and was too frightened to unload the car - the lightning was too close. Waited then finally unloaded. The storm is still happening - I know the power went out when I was gone because all my digital clocks were blinking. Loaded new dishes in dishwasher and sitting here procrastinating the task at hand of Mount BoxHell.

Thank goodness it's finally friday! What a week. I am utterly exhausted. Moved on Monday - then spent the entire week unpacking (few hours at a time - still had a full workweek, and my training schedule continued, and all the drama of settling in). Work was a wild mess of drama - but in the end, we were all in great spirits. I headed out for a relatively short training ride - we had a huge thunderstorm roll thru here with some very dangerous lightning conditions. I was glad to finish when I did. I piled everything into the car when It was about to pour rail like dogs and elephants. Headed out to the grocery store to get a few provisions and to Big Lots - I'm still missing a few things...silly shit...like a kitchen trash can...and a bathroom trash can...and a vegetable peeler...and a thermometer for the deck...Big Lots is great for this - ultra cheap stuff. Came home and unloaded groceries and all the junk I procured at Big Lots, had a quick bite to eat and went out on the deck (pictured - click for larger pic) and had a beer. I just sat there and vegged out for almost a 1/2 hour. I was very relaxed - almost fell asleep in one of the green deck chairs. I sat there for a while and was imagining what kinda garden I want to put in. Definately 5-6 large railing planter boxes - containing a mix of herbs, peppers and a few decorative things. Since I'm getting into this late this season - I'll be selective. The deck itself is very large - it's about 23 feet long and in one part about 10 feet wide (narrows 1/2 way) with about a 12' ceiling. I love it. Over the weekend, I'll scope out the window/rail box scene at Home Depot. Over the weekend - I'll plan to sleep in...go out on a training ride (I don't have to drive anywhere to start...will just start from my new home...head west to West Virginia..and tackle the hills)..then come home take a dip in the pool...then run out for Home Depot and Office Depot to get some organizational crap...and a plastic carpet protector for my desk chair. Still too much to do. I did manage to finish the bathroom and laundry area - put away huge boxes, put all books and peripheribles in the bookcase, place all livingroom electronics (not all configured) and finished the kitchen. I didn't finish until almost 2:30am (horrid when I had to get up at 7am) Tonight, after I finish this cup of coffee...time to tackle putting away all my clothes in my walk-in closet, sort and toss old clothes..then put all storage boxes away....I think I'll be about 80% done at that point - biggest hurtle is figuring out how to organize my office. A trip to IKEA may be in order on Sunday

Great deck! - and the k/l/d-rooms look pretty spacious too. You said you had a carport not a garage so I assume the bike comes up stairs with you? I hope the new place works well and that you enjoy.

oy oy oy...it's late. No biggie. To quote the Smiths "I'm tired..and I want to go to bed..." Been a tiring and productive day - but it's almost over. To sum up: Work: dramatic less-than-professionalism fluff, but very productive in the crisis management department. Cycling training: skipped my club ride - did a solo 38 miler Moving/unpacking: Wall of boxes has become Mount Rushmore in girth, albeit empty. Managed to unpack and install entire bookcase, all books, and continue efforts in kitchen to stellar proportions. Was a freakishly gratifying night of unsheathing books from boxes and stacking them like the sexy librarian that I'm not. No pics to share tonight...I'm tired. I have a tough day at work tomorrow...but I look forward to a productive weekend. Note to self: get plastic carpet protector thingy for office chair, more 50 gallon trash bags, bananas, gatorade......

No time to talk - the wall of boxes which are pregnant with contents yelling at me to give birth and liberate. Vive le boxes! Another day of unpacking...after a full work day, and a 1.25 hour training ride. I'm still sore and bruised as heck after my move. And very tired. Welp, I've moved in - not settled, but moved in and fully functional. Twas a messy past day or so - between the wicked heat, lots of voluntary "excersizing" moving boxes after furniture out and across NoVA and into an un-airconditioned 3rd floor apartment. Suffice to say, I have all my crap into the apartment (pictured in 2nd pic) - where do I even begin to start unpacking. I did all the essentials - bed first, coffee machine set up & ready, alarm clock (I had to work today, yesterday was the move), bathroom things in place, basic kitchen stuff, and lastly, my computer setup. I tried to set up my mac last night - but the CD writer is somehow farked - prolly from being neglected for 1.5 years. Sobeit..I was to have my new Dell come this week (pictured) - and it came today. So I haphazardly set it up - but I now have full high speed net access and everything plug n play, printer etc (I managed to install the basics (photoshop, drivers for my camera) so I could transfer a few pics (pictured), resize them, upload them, and just waste the pixels you are reading about it. Settled? Not remotely. I have a full week of baby steps after work and my ultra marathon cycling training - I can spend a few hours unpacking and setting thing up. It's fun though - never a dull moment. photo by d. scott gregory New Dell + high speed = rawks click to enlarge |
My new apartment? I LOVE it. It's fantastic - more about it at a later time with pics (after I get settled). I love my deck - must be about 20-25 feet long, I've already put a few adorondack chairs out there - just need a table. And time to garden...more on this later. And the pool, love the pool - will go there this weekend. The air conditioning did get fixed yesterday afternoon that I moved in - it was hot as hell, in the high 90s with 80% humidity - I think I lost 10lbs. Suffice to say, I did not go on a training ride yesterday. Time to go back to the wall of boxes.

(Moved in to new apartment)

Welp - tomorrow is moving day. And I am all set - all psyched. But it's gonna be a hot and humid one - in the mid 90s. I feel for the people who are moving me - but I'll be moving stuff with them. I've already stocked my new fridge with water and gatorade. Speaking of which... Woke up mid morning and shuffled around the house getting stuff prepared, then took my bed apart and did more packing - then had my parents join me to see the place (while empty) and just to chum with them and show them the new "hood" - they totally dug it - unsure... We managed to take over a large carfull of things to get the place started and to make sure all the utilities were on and working. It was hot as hell when we walked in - so I turned on the AC...which was making odd sounds. After a while - realized it was not working at all. And on a really hot day - unfunny, especially when I brought my 60-65 year old parents over..they walked up to the third floor to a hot apartment. Un-fuckin-funny. I managed to deal with it later - and it will be fixed tomorrow morning while my movers are here packing the truck. We spent a short hour in the place putting together a few items - I think my mom enjoyed puttin in the shower curtain..and living vicariously thru a new place - my dad just sat there, very content watching us (very unusual - I think the heat got to him, he helped heft up a buncha my shit up the steps). Afterwards - I gave them the nickle tour of the community, the pools, comunity houses, then we went to Harris Teeter - the closest grocery store. I love my new grocery store. It just opened this week. As a foodie - this place is great. And reasonable. Sorta like between Wegmans (snobby overpriced) and the new Kroger stores. Very upscale - but reasonable. I picked up a few things to put in the fridge and then noticed the plastic adirondack chairs that I've been looking for - for a week. They had them...on sale for $9.49 each (usually about 25 bucks, grand opening sale). I about died. I got 2 - perfect. Said farewell to the parents then went back up to my oven of an apartment - then started to put away the necessities and prepare for the movers tomorrow. CHanged and then took a very quick and hot/sweaty 1.5 hr training ride. Left bike in new apartment then drove towards my now "old" home, only 30 minute drive - 25 miles. Grabbed some subway on the way home - I hate fast food, but I had to eat. Finished all my packing, and preparations - time to sip a beer and fill out a form email letter for change of address to friends and family. Life is good! (will be possibly offline for a day or so)
