Slept in this morning - it seems that I needed alot of sleep to catch up on. Was difficult to get out of bed too, raining, cold...and I was feeling little aches all over from the drastic weather changes. I finally got out of the house at 1pm after much deliberation. It was damp and cold out - I put my bike in the car (clean as a whistle, so clean you could eat off it) - and an array of layered bike clothes. I had an errand or two before I went biking.

Ran the errands real quick, I was all outfitted up at 2pm - on the road heading West from Vienna...bumped into a few blokes I know from the Reston Bike Club and the Spokes guys..a local racing team. We started out in the same time/direction/speed...just sorta pacelined the nasty 20-30mph oncoming gusts of wind. It was horrible...we were biking headfirst into seemingly gale force winds - at one point, in upright stand up pumping - only going between 10-14 mph. we had decided on a 50+ mile ride - although getting there was the challenge - took us over an hour to get to Ashburn, but we knew coming back was going to be alot of fun. WE finally got to our aggreed upon turn around point, shy of Clarks Gap near Peonean Springs/Hamilton. Each of us took a few swigs of water, turned around and made a gleefully fast run back. We averaged about 35mph on the straight aways...up to 45mph in the hills..the wind just pushed us home...plus it was mostly downhill. We got back in record time, only 52 miles total.

On the way back, between pacelines - I talked to a few of my comrades...one of whom told me about his experiences with double Centuries (a single 200 mile race/ride)...he trains for them year round. He explained that based on my current training situation, to train for a double century is not any different. I'm now absolutely sure I'm going to attempt one this Spring/Summer/Fall...just need to find the one. If anything, the regular "Century"s that I do will just be a training run...

More of the same tomorrow - except the weather will be nicer - may try to get my car washed, and cook something experimental tomorow night..like conch stew or something - will be an interesting "paring" with grilled bratwurst, pears and fontana cheese...
