Busy day at work - and an early morning to start it off. But went well. Was worried that it was gonna rain during my bike ride, but decided to tough it out. I knew I was gonna get wet - hell, I'm usually soaked at the end of a ride anyways from sweating. I take off my helmet and a dam breaks it's like there's a gallon of sweat up there. Anyhoo. Three weird things happenned on the short 32 mile ride tonight.
First event - I almost hit a deer. Literally. this huge deer leaps out of the woods and onto the trail (they always do), with one or more friends. But this time - it jumped literally in front of me, turned it's head and froze. We made eye contact just as I hit my brakes and skidded about 10 feet and my front tire was about a foot from this deer right as it turned and ran. I suppose the sound of my skidding frightened the deer. Scared the shit out of me too.
The other event is actually a two part thing - let's just say it involves mature people, a liquid and a moment of pride - and then a moment of shame.
I felt like I was gonna do a good thing. There's this woman who rides this rusty old bike near Vienna. I see her every night I bike that route (which has been for 7 months) - and I hear her rusty old bike with the rusty old chain (she's a little rusty herself - prolly in her sixties). But tonight, I decided that I was gonna pack some oil in the event I see her....and it happenned. I saw her - and explained that "I see you all the time and I was wondering if you wanted yer chain oiled - it sure is squeeky". She looked a little embarrassed - but obliged and said, yes "why thank you". I oiled up her chain and all the parts....made sure they made no sound. She was wildly impressed. I said "you need to do this once a month" she was like, really, I didn't know they needed to be oiled at all" we laffed and I said farewell. I felt great - like I had done a good deed. 
So this deed went great until I spoiled it later by doing a similar thing...I was almost to Vienna and I was taking a huge swig from my hydration bladder (camel pack water thang) and up ahead I spot this huge fat groundhog on the edge of the trail on the left. I always see these things...maybe about 20 of them per ride. 
They just sit there at the edge of the trail munching on grass n shit - looking dulled out by us bikers encroaching their food dish. SO I felt child-like and was thinking - I'll spit a little water over at him...he may just flinch...how silly...how harmless....."then as I pursed my lips and begun to spout towards this ground hog, I see (in slow motion) out of the corner of my eye - a bicyclist (trying to pass me) motioning ......not....to....spit....water..... Oh crap... Too late. I not only got caught doing such a silly stupid act - but the person who witnessed it got sprayed on. He looked VERY annoyed. I immediately apologized - but he sped on - he was also in his 60s.
The last event of the ride was amusing. There's this gymnastics club near where I get on and off the trail. It's this large warehouse full of equipment and foam pits. Lotta gymnists in there working out. They keep the huge back doors open - like loading dock bays. I reminince about my old gymnastucs days and doing my practices in such a place. Anyhoo, I overheard presumably the coach yelling at a few of her athletes "stop your bickering Ashley - Courtney does not have your lip gloss.....if you don't cut that crap out - you will both be doing 100 pushups each" I was laffing sooo hard.
